D-Day Fast Facts

I would be remiss if I didn't take time to mention, even though there is less and less coverage and fewer survivors with each passing year, that today in 1944 the most extraordinary land invasion in military history occurred on the beaches of Normandy.Thursday is the 69th anniversary of D-Day, the greatest seaborne invasion in history, which ultimately led to the demise of Adolf Hitler's Third Reich. To be sure, most Americans and citizens of Allied nations in World War II are well aware of this(Life.com) -- It's no mystery why images of unremitting violence spring to mind when one hears the deceptively simple term "D-Day."
